Downtown policy amendments public meeting

The Town of Wasaga Beach has initiated a process to amend the Official Plan, Zoning
By-law, and Downtown Community Improvement Plan in order to implement the
Downtown Development Master Plan through redevelopment at Beach Area One.
Three Town-initiated applications have commenced including proposed Official Plan
Amendment (File No. OP04/20), Zoning By-law Amendment (File No. Z13/20) and
proposed amendment to the Downtown Community Improvement Plan (File No.
CIP01/20).

Reality:
The total project cost for the twin-pad arena and library project is $59-million, of which the land portion is already paid along with some project management and design fees. The remaining project cost to be covered is $51-million, of which $31-million will be financed through long-term debt. This debt will be issued when the project is complete in 2023. The annual payment will be in the range of $1.5 million and will be made through tax revenue and development charges.

Schematic design approved for new twin-pad arena and library
Council has approved the updated schematic design for the new twin-pad arena and library. This is a major milestone in the development of the project.
In addition, they have approved the revised distribution of expenses for the project, based on the more refined design, while maintaining the total project budget of $59-million.

Town of Wasaga Beach employee tests positive for COVID-19

A Town of Wasaga Beach employee at town hall has tested positive for COVID-19.
The town learned of the positive test Friday and immediately contacted the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit.
The employee started self-isolating at home on Wednesday and is following the direction of public health, which has completed contact tracing. The town is providing support as needed.
The employee was following protocols in place while in the workplace. They contracted the virus during non-work hours.

Changes will allow transit users to purchase bus pass online

Council has authorized staff to upgrade the bus pass system so transit users can reload bus passes online.
They will also be able to purchase a new pass online and report a lost or stolen pass.
The new features will be accessible through a portal on the town website at www.wasagabeach.com. Watch our website and social media channels for details about the launch.
The service enhancement is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
